On Barnes and Noble's Website

Oh look.

search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Game-of-My-Life/Jason-McElwain/e/9780451223012

I don't think the link will work; if not just go onto www.barnesandnoble.com and look for The Game of My Life by Jason McElwain.

It's the first time they've used my name.

A Spill of Language

All of sudden, after about two weeks of people brewing in my head, they and all the right words came out and formed a story. It isn't finished yet but this is the first time I've been able to get it right and it feels so good.

Chapbook Publishers?

There are probably two or three people (apart from myself) who have ever looked at this blog. But in case anyone can offer suggestions, I need to be directed towards a publisher who is interested in chapbooks. I've spent much time researching, and about ten minutes ago visited a website that listed several, but most of them are closed to submissions or offer only competitions. I am not interested in contests. So if anyone can help me by offering the name of a press that takes chapbooks, I will be enormously thankful.

At Last

This morning I finished my review book. I did not like it but am very glad to have done with it. Well, of course I've still got to write the review, but it's not due until the eleventh and I have a while to consider just what I want to say, and then to edit. I hate finishing a book the day before the review is due to be sent, or, as I've done a couple of times, the morning before.

My New Friend

Today I went to Lincoln to see my mother's friend's daughter's new baby. Since I've known this family all my life, I felt like an aunt, especially when I got to hold him! I imagined him as beautiful but in reality he was even more beautiful. That was also the case when my brother William was born (I was almost nine, and he's now six). The new baby's eyes are enormous and a very deep blue in a very tiny face. I love him.

I Take it Back ...

... I really haven't read anything worse than this new review book. Well, maybe once; there was one book I had to review for VOYA that I really couldn't enjoy (although I seem to be the only reviewer who disliked it), but this new book is terrible. Though of course I have to read it. Sigh.

And I've got a long way to go ...

I really should be reading the book, not blogging. Off I go.

...

Okay, now I really will.

...

No, I mean it.

...

Rrrrrrrrgh.

Some Book Reviews

Yesterday my copy of Voice of Youth Advocates arrived in the mail. This month's issue included two of my reviews; one is for The Mystery of the Third Lucretia (which I loved), and the other is for The Game of My Life (also a wonderful read). Unfortunately I was highly displeased with the latter review, but I knew when I finished writing it that it was probably the worst I had ever written (except, perhaps, for the very first, which was for The Grail Quest: The Shadow Companion, when I was so rushed I hardly stopped to think of the fact that the last two sentences should have been joined). Maybe I had trouble because it was the first nonfiction book I'd had to review.

And the review for Lucretia has a misprint, but oh well ...

The book I'm currently reading for the magazine is quite disturbing. It's about hunting and the descriptions are freaky. But I've read worse ...
